Peter Lim began his financial career at a tender age of 21. From there, he started off doing insurance and unit trust and from there he gained experience and was motivated to plunge fully into the financial industry.
He then went on to take the Certified Financial Planning (CFP) course as he wanted to build a career in business planning.
In December 2004, He passed 5 modules in 1 sitting and he also passed his Module 6 paper in the following sitting. He even bagged a Merit award for his Module 6 paper: Financial Plan Construction and Professional Responsibilities.
At age 24, Peter Lim created a record when he completed his CFP course in one 14 months, the shortest time possible.

Peter Lim’s logical thinking must be accredited to his passion for math and chess during his secondary school years.
He was chosen to represent his school (Penang Free School) in Form 4 and was one of the Maths Olympiad Prize Winner.
His passion for chess also paid off when he was crowned as the Malaysian Champion for under 18 in the MSSM Chess Champion for Under 18 Individual in the year 1997.

In year 2005, he got a big breakthrough when he won 3 out of 25 of the top winning portfolios in the Personal Money Magazine’s Investment Game.
There were 2,326 players in the game and Peter Lim managed 3 portfolios (under his wife’s name Tan Shu-Yin, and his father-in-law’s name Tan Leong Wah).
This is by no means based on luck, I believe, as all 3 of his portfolios that he managed, he won the 1st, 4th and 6th prize.
